Gum Grafting
Gum grafting techniques are used when teeth appear too long. Individual teeth can have a condition known as recession, where the gum line recedes from its location at the coronal portion of the tooth and exposing root surfaces. These root exposed areas can be unsightly in the smile when the teeth look longer. They are also typically darker and can be sensitive. Rather than just covering these areas with white filling materials to protect them, it can be possible to graft new gum tissue over these exposed roots.
It is important to get options for gum grafting when teeth have recession to help improve the look of the smile, especially when considering a smile makeover with porcelain crowns and veneers. One “Long” tooth can throw off the look of the entire smile. Make sure you get a consult with a Smile Stylist to get all the options for the gums.
